VITAL INFORMATION Any citizen of Polk County who, because of illness or injury, needs one or more blood transfusions, does not have to pay for that blood. No matter in what hospital, in any part of the United States, it is administered, he can obtain it free of charge, fromi the Asheville Red Cross Blood Center. This privilege is ours because Polk County is part of the Ameri can Red Cross National Blood Program. It is ours because Polk County citizens, over and over again, have responded generously to the Red Cross appeal for blood and have given their blood freely to help those who might die for lack of it. Manv people still don’t under stand that this privilege is theirs. If you should enter any hospital in the country, having reason to belieye blood transfusions may be needed, be sure to inform hospital authorities, when you are admit ted, that you are entitled to free blood through the Asheville Red Cross Blood Center. If blood has to be supplied from a center near er at hand, the Asheville Center will, at the request of the hospital in your name, replace the blood that has been given to you. You need not pay anything for the blood—only for the cost of admin istering it, and for the laboratory work involved.—Red Cross Re porter.
